Flinder street, dinner love a hearty curry with freshly baked garlic naan and lucky for them, Ravi Singh opened the The great Jewel of India in March 2012 at the former get India restaurant site. The head chef and owner runs the family business serving traditional Indian cuisine, with brother Doulat Singh , after six years at the Tandoori Place, in Brisbane’s Albion and surfers paradise on the gold coast.

Growing up in Garhwali, a farming town in Uttrakhand, northern India, Singh followed the path of family friends at age 20 and travelled to Mumbai to learn to prepare traditional food and make a career as a chef.

After farming potato, onion, green peas, and rice on the land, he was looking for the right opportunity and found work at restaurant Gaylord in the five –star hotel horizon for five years, where he learnt the basics of a good butter chicken curry, made with real thickened cream, tomato paste and chicken cooked in a clay pot, marinated in yoghurt and Indian spices. A passion for travel and cooking bring him here. Singh gained plenty of wisdom about running a restaurant and had known the former get India owner, a card-well farmer, who wanted to focus entirely on his primary business.
